Women don't call women slut%

I hate the word slut and I know you all hate it when you hear men calling girls sluts. It’s degrading, embarrassing and discriminating. But do you know what’s even worst? Women calling women sluts. Us using that word on each other, just makes it ok for men to do it too. Can we expect men to stop calling us names like slut and whore, if we keep doing it ourselves? If it’s going to stop, it has to start with us.

You don't hear men calling each other names, and shaming one another about how many sexual partners they have had. Men give each other a high five or a pat on the back. WTF?

What is a slut anyway? Why does the word even exist, or at least exist in the way we use it? The Oxford Dictionary describes the word as derogatory for; a woman who has many casual sexual partners, a promiscuous woman, woman or girl who is considered to have loose sexual morals, a woman who has sexual relationships with a lot of men without any emotional involvement. Well then what’s the word for men who have many sexual partners... players?

It’s an age old question, but why is it ok for men to sleep around but not ok for women? And are the times changing? When will it be an equal playing field?

A lot of us were probably raised being told by adults, or our parents that having sex is bad. Or that if you have sex before marriage, you will go to hell, (ok that might be a bit excessive). But there definitely is a stigma from a young age, that being sexual is something we should be ashamed of. Now I'm not suggesting that we should all be encouraging each other to go around banging as many people as possible, no not at all!

Choosing to be sexually active has its consequences, (i.e pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases etc…) It isn't something that should be taken lightly. It needs to be an informed decision and women or girls shouldn't be made to feel like they are a bad person for making this decision.

How often do teenage girls or adults even, use being drunk as an excuse for why they have slept with someone? Is it because they feel ashamed of their decision to engage in casual sex? Although in a drunk state, you are more likely to not make informed decisions about what you are getting yourself into. Is it safe to go to that person's house? Are you using protection?

Girls don't need to be made to feel ashamed for being sexually curious, or active. They need to be educated and informed. They need to feel safe and able to talk about sex, so they can make the right decisions for them.

This needs to start with women not calling other women sluts.
