Carrie Bradshaw will never go out of style. Even if today some of her outfits seem a little wacky/debatable. She put tutus on the map, started our obsession with Manolo Blahnik’s and made us all want to book a ticket to NYC stat.
There’s been no other style icon like her; although really, we do have her super, duper costume designers Patricia Field and Rebecca Weinberg to thank for that.
Because you know that tutu Carrie wore in the opening credits? Patricia bought it for $5. The infamous nameplate necklace that took off? It was randomly inspired by a bunch of girls on a train. And the flowers Carrie wore? They only seemed to grow bigger and bigger by the season right?
(Seriously, they got huge. Who in real life can pull off flowers like that?)
The ladies had a way to mix high and low fashion together and make it work and by the end of the seasons designers were climbing all over one another to get their clothes on the show – so you know they did something right.
But what we think made the faaarshion on the show all the more fun is that a lot of the ensembles Patricia says, “were thrown together,” and often moments “we didn’t plan out.”
Patricia and Rebecca made Carrie a character not only symbolic of her time, but way ahead of it too. She also made us want to go shopping in amazing outfits we already own…to buy even more amazing outfits to own, while making it ok for all of us to wear black bras under white tops like IDGAF as well.
We love Carrie. We love her outfits and when we’re stuck in an clothes rut we think she's the perfect inspo to get us through to the end of the week.
Now who wants to wear a tutu to work tomorrow?
Tell us, which one of Carrie's outfits was your fave?
