How To Create The Perfect Winter Lip

You know when it comes to makeup we always rely on makeup extraordinaire (and makeup artist) Amelia Singson to show us where it's at. And since these days the seasons seem to change so quickly, we also don't want to miss what new season makeup trends to jump on top of and what products might just be calling our name.

(Important things in our lives right? We don't want to be left questioning these things!)

Anyway, since winter is here our makeup obviously can't stay stuck in a summer induced trend coma either. Which means it's time to switch things up!

But how? Let us let Amelia lead the way...

Winter is here! Which means we can ditch the fake tan, drape ourselves in layers and once again embrace our paler selves. Most importantly though, it means it's also time for us to amp up the bold dark lips!

Although we have to remember that preparation is key when it comes to wearing a darker shade of lipstick colour this season. So here are a few tips to make note of before you shop for your perfect dark lip shade.

- Exfoliate with a washcloth soaked in warm water or make your own lip scrub with some lip balm and sugar.

- Prime your lips with MAC Prep & Prime Lip - $33.00 for smooth, hydrated lips with a matte finish (oily lip balms make your lipstick slip, slide and separate).

- A lip liner will also be your best friend if you find darker lipstick a bit intimidating. Use it to outline your lips (follow your natural lip line - we don't all want to look like the youngest Jenner...) and fill them in to create the perfect base for your lipstick/stain/chubby pencil to grip onto.

And now for the fun part, it's time to go shopping!

Below are some of my favourite darker shades for creating the perfect winter lip this winter.

MAC Pro Long wear Lip Pencil in Dark Out - $42.00
MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip in High Drama - $46.00
Tom Ford Lip Color in Black Dahlia - $75.00
