New York Fashion Week (NYFW) AW 17 has come and gone - but never without controversies and a hell of a lot of fashion inspo to take in for the season ahead. You see, the AW 17 shows fit perfectly with our Australian weather and as the seasons change, everything we see on the runway now, we'll soon be able to add to our wardrobes super quick. Anyway, if you haven't had a chance to check out the past fashion filled week, we've put together a rundown to get you up to speed.
So let's begin...
Kendall Jenner cut her hair short into a lob at La Perla and unveiled it on social media (naturally), Bella Hadid cried at a couple of shows she walked in (Oscar de La Renta and Prabal Gurung) - because they were just so moving. Remember that super hot prison guy that went viral a few years ago? His name was Jeremy Meeks (for those who need a reminder see pic below). Anyway, he opened for Philipp Plein and walked in his first show ever. (WTF, LOL!) Apparently every celebrity was at this show too. Kylie Jenner, Madonna, Coco Rocha, Tiffany Trump, Nicky Hilton - you name them...and they were probably there.
Also, Ashley Graham, was the first plus size model in the history of ever to walk for Michael Kors. And this year, fashion went political - with slogan tees a plenty to be seen both on and off the runway.
Anyway, last but not least Yeezy came back with his season five collection. Naturally, he asked for no social media AT ALL during the show (however things got leaked anyway), he shoo-ed out media he didn't want to stay and once it was all over he secretly made an escape so nobody even saw him. Controversial? Well not as much as last year. Still weird? Yes.
And that's it. Did you guys follow along? What designers were your faves? We've rounded up a few of ours below. Enjoy XO
THE STREET STYLE
Mini bags, loud logos, parkas, backpacks and political statements reigned supreme. Take what you want from the street style at NYFW and work it into your wardrobe.
White shirts, white shirts, white shirts! Carolina Herrera let her love for this beloved item of clothing shine through. The wardrobe staple was worn with voluminous skirts and she even turned one into a must have for evening (in favour of a dress). Couple it with chiffon knotted gowns, lush velvets and sequins this show was to die!
Victoria Beckham has always been the queen of staple wardrobe pieces and this season was no different - although this time, her pieces were created with a little more masculinity and structure to shake it up. Think heritage fabrics, chiffon layered on top of high necks all combined with a super manly feel.
A highlight every year and this year was no exception. Only difference being that this year was designers' Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough's last year at NYFW before they head to Paris to show their collections at couture week only. Anyway, the clothes were totally impractical and would be super hard to pull off, think cut outs, boxy silhouettes and asymmetrical sleeves - but we loved it all the same!
The main takeaways for the season ahead: Natural is still in, cut your hair shorter and go for grey hues on your nails and even your eyes.
