What The Heck Are Mules?

If you don’t own a pair of mules you have not lived! Seriously. They’re so comfy that no matter what your occasion, we promise you will live more life wearing mules, than you would be living when... donning six inch stilettos.

They’re the IT shoe of right now. They’re cool girl easy breezy and such a fun trend to dip your toes in. They will also make a bigger statement with an ensemble than a pair of classic points.

Street stylers are all over them too. So are designers. In fact you might be hard pressed to come by a fashion-y person that is not rocking a pair this season. We’re obsessed with mules. Like we’re obsessed with most trends. But right now, while it’s summer, mules have our heart.

Although what do mules look like? And how might you rock such comfy shoes this season, when somebody still has not defined them properly for you?

Well, Muses, let us tell you a little story.

You see mules, traditionally, are backless closed toe shoes. HOWEVER since it is 2017, the mules of RN are more open toe (although closed toe mules do still exist). They also come as both flats and heels; but the most defining feature of the mule (despite the lack of back) is the cool and super comfy block heel. That is what mak-eth the mule….oooh and some mules also look like slippers or barely there slides – sans block heel too.

There are so many different styles now OMG.

Anyway, if you’re still confused the dictionary defines a mule as:

A backless slipper or shoe, often with a closed toe.”

Which is basically what we just said but oh so much sharper (boring) and more to the point. However it does fail to mention the heel so we’re not that impressed.

FYI: the word Mule is also French (which in our books kinda ups the CHIC factor by a million percent.)

Anyway, we think you get the idea.

Mules are cool, comfy and you need a pair. Plus, you can wear them a gazillion and one ways. Our favourite is with long pants or denim. You can also wear them with dresses, but since they feel like half shoes, sometimes a shoe that is a little more substantial might be the way to go with a dress - especially if it's short.

But you do you.

Below we’ve rounded up some fun options for you to stalk.

PS. Tell us, what do you think of mules? Do you love them? Hate them? Do you find them confusing? Did you think mules were clogs? (They’re very similar)
