Social media has created a wrath in our society that affects everyone. Influencers and models are among the victims. People all over the world see elegant photos or captured moments, but they don’t look deeper into “beauty.” The camera may not capture everything. Even though it looks almost perfect, it does not include the harsher, more realistic version of the humans that we so often glorify. Remember that those looks don’t always come naturally, and the pictures are not perfect.
- Doing one of these at the start of the day will set you up for a positive day. Self-complimenting is important! You look great in the mirror. Praise yourself to build your confidence and ability to appreciate the beauty you show daily. You will feel better if you tell yourself you are looking your best. If you continue to do this, your attitude will be set for the day.
As we become young adults, these beauty standards become almost imprinted on us. Society suggests that women stay slim and men be more muscular. But why? Why are you expected to look a certain way in order to fit into the mold society has for you?
All of these questions are difficult to answer because they have no answers. All of this is a social construction if you think about it. Social constructs are things that have been created by humans and are not objectively real. We humans create an unrealistic beauty standard on social media, which we all expect to achieve. It is our responsibility to eliminate it.
My experience is that many demons are always following me when it comes to my appearance. They laugh at me when I feel like I’m not worthy of my looks. This happens especially when I use social media. It breaks me to hear the voice in my head asking why I’ll never have those toned abs or muscular arms that many men have. It can affect my mood and make me feel that nothing I do is going to help me feel good about my body or appearance.
- You can use the following advice to help you fight these demons:Find one thing that you like about yourself. You will definitely find one, but I want you to convince yourself that there are more. Everyone will see something beautiful about you. Beauty is subjective. Remember that others may have a different idea of what makes you attractive. This is true because people find things different about you engaging when you look at a social media platform.
- Self-care is important. When I focus on me and take the time to make myself feel better, I find that I am more productive.
- Showering
- Styling your hair
- Hair Dying
- Style change: a new look for your wardrobe
- Makeup is a great way to enhance your appearance.
- Having mental health days
- Music that lifts your mood
- Love what you do
- Meditation
- Enjoying nature and taking walks
- Workout
- Keep your phone off
- Take a break from social media
- Self-care can be anything that makes you happy as long as it is enjoyable. You will feel more confident and mentally stronger if you do something that you enjoy or that makes you happy. If you repeat these daily routines, they will become habits. Doing one of these at the start of the day will set you up for a positive day. Self-complimenting is important! You can use the vision of beauty society has firmly pushed to create and manipulate your standards. It will never be easy, but with focus and determination, you can achieve a new level of confidence and beauty in yourself and others.
